“They are, to me, both people and landscape.”

From places Beyond

This series was the one that started it all - compelling me to pick up a paintbrush for the first time in my adult life as I neared thirty - in an attempt to release the emotions that were burning inside me that I could no longer contain. It was a direct emotional response to my years living on the other side of the world, in a time before laptops and smartphones were the norm and I could feel this distance fully. This time in my life urged me to forge friendships with strangers for fear of loneliness, and to also discover writing as emotional therapy.

Through the faces of people that I came to know along the way, these works were my way of processing and exploring my experiences while far from home, and coping with the feelings of loss and disarray that were waiting for me upon my return. Each one is dear to me, having added something vital to the person I am today. They are, to me, both people and landscape.
